Travellers Notes
Passports:
Everyone is required to have a valid passport on them at all times (our make a good photocopy to carry in your wallet).
Visas:
Currently citizens of the USA, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Israel, Japan, Panama, Romania, South Korea, Uruguay, the UK, France and most other Western European countries do not need a visa for a 90-day stay. Citizens of Australia, Ireland, Iceland, India, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, South Africa, Vatican City and most of Eastern Europe and Latin America can stay 30 days without a visa. Please check with a Costa Rican Embassy or consulate several weeks prior to your trip if you are unsure of your visa requirements, they cost about twenty bucks.
About Packing:
Think about the climate and learn a little bit about the area you are visiting. Its quite warm, near the equator and has plenty of sunshine. In the rainy season, some areas get much more than others, so pay attention and bring some wet weather gear. The are a lot of nature everywhere, and sometimes there is a few bugs too. Bring some repellent and you'll be ok. Sometimes the same goods aren't readily available, so if there is anything you cant be without, bring it!
Cash:
You have to bring it, unless you bring travellers checks. No matter what, get some safe pouch you can keep close to your body and a second wallet for small bills and travel documents. This way you can get around fine without flashing any money, which is never a good idea any where you are. Remember the $27 departure tax, it can be paid in cash or by credit card IF you can do a cash advance.
